The Sun Seekers song "Peace and Love" was used for the first time on Irish television on RTE's "Off the rails" programme on November 7th 2007. We always knew Caroline was a big fan! Also the band have been busy opening Santa grotto's around Ireland, playing classic christmas songs such as Shakin Stevens' "Merry Christmas Everyone" and The Pogues "Fairytale of New York". Already opening Newbridge, Drogheda and Letterkenny grottos, next is Citywest grotto in Dublin.

The Sun Seekers have a new bass player.........Dave Procter. Dave now lives in Ireland after his Irish wife wished to come back to her native Turloughmore, Co. Galway. But back in New Zealand, Dave ran a studio with a guy called Malcolm Foster who was the bass player with Chrissie Hynde & the Pretenders and Simple Minds. Dave bought a number of guitars off Malcolm including one used by the Pretenders on stage in Philadelphia at Live Aid 1984. Along with breaking in a new member The Sun Seekers are about to make their first music video which will be shot in Aidan Reade's studio in the next couple of weeks. The song chosen for this is from the band's debut album and is called "Money Honey". The video will be directed by Caoimhe Connolly, who is Galway-based and was assistant director on The Blizzards video "War of Words". Keep an eye on the band's website, You Tube, Myspace and Bebo for the video which will be up in the coming weeks………..hopefully!

The Sun Seekers have recorded a version of Teenage Kicks for a national radio station competition in Ireland. This song was a hit in the 70's for punk band The Undertones who hailed from Derry in the north of the country. The recording features Derek Murray of great Irish band The Stunning on lead guitar. THE SUN
SEEKERS
PEACE AND LOVE
****
It's not
often that I have had the opportunity to review an original
band, in particular an original Irish band, and their
music! In fact this is my 1st attempt at such a feat
away from the usual evaluation of new film releases
and gigs, so let's hope that I do the band & their
music justice.
So who
are The Sun Seekers (very apt name guys considering
where we live) and where are they from? The Sun Seekers
are a Galway based band who've been on the go since
2003 and comprise of Fintan Donnelly on vocals and rhythm
guitar; Donal Kearns on
drums; Roswell Stanley on bass and backing vocals &
Pascal Cereghetti on the lead guitar! Ever since their
birth they have been developing their own unique &
potent pop/rock sound, the first fruits of which came
to life in 2005 when they released their debut EP "Peace
and Love". Interestingly enough it was produced
with the help of Tony Lambert, who is an ex-keyboard
& Hammond organ player with The Saw Doctors and
Bonnie Tyler Band! Later on that same year saw them
release their debut album "Window Shopping for
Porsches" on their own label Rainy Records. And
though I have not yet heard the full album, judging
on what I've heard so far, I expect it to be a clever;
melodic; thought provoking & poignant piece of music.
For those interested in finding more information on
the band I'd encourage you to out the following websites:
www.thesunseekers.com or
www.myspace.com/thesunseekers.
And now
let's get down to the music after that detailed yet
necessary introduction to the band! Peace & Love,
the title track is a beautifully upbeat; likable yet
touching reflection on our need for both of them in
our lives and unforgiving world. Money Honey is a decidedly
more rougher; edgier number with a repetitively addictive
chorus making a witty; dark commentary on the driving
force that
the lust for money plays in our lives and the lengths
we will go through to get it. Hurly Burly is a delightfully
catchy & bluesy little ditty celebrating the joy
& contentment of finding that special someone to
love and the fun that comes with that. Finally the bright
& breezy Oliver bemoans the infamous military leader
& politician Oliver Cromwell and questions what
his seemingly brutal atrocities & tyranny committed
against the people of Ireland in the period 1649-1650
actually achieved. Did it serve any purpose?
After listening
to the EP it only serves to wet my appetite for the
aforementioned full album which is available through
the website www.roadrecs.com under the section of Irish
releases! Somehow I
think that the sun won't be the only thing that this
band will be seeking when word of their music &
talent catches on in these shores. Could it be that
they might want some money honey; money honey; money
honey; money honey; money honey; money honey; money
honey?

The
dog barked and ran to the front door where the postman
was dropping in a parcel through the letterbox, as the
dog went to grab the parcel it fell into my hand first
and thanks to my quick action the CD of The Sun Seekers
arrived safe and sound. What a relief the dog did not
get to it first as it would have been in a thousand
pieces and I would not have got to hear The Sun Seekers'
great new EP Peace and Love.
The
Sun Seekers, a Galway based band, are Fintan Donnelly
-lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Donal Kearns - Drums,
Pascal Cereghetti - lead guitar and Roswell Stanley
- Bass / Backing vocals. The title track "Peace
and Love" brings all the energy and excitement
of a new Irish band that can go on and do great things.
The sound smacks of early "Waterboys" and
"The levellers", what a breath of fresh air,
an original band with a knack for great pop and rock.
"Money Honey", "Hurly Burly" and
"Oliver" continue on with their fresh rock-pop
style that does not fail to get your foot tapping and
also leaves you with the taste of wanting to hear more
from this new band. They are working on a new album
expected early next year, if it is even half the album
"Peace and Love" is it is a well worth buy.
Check
out their website www.thesunseekers.com where you can
listen to the tracks and find out if they are playing
a gig near you.
